After a four-quarter break, Infosys is planning to pick up where it left off, with the goal of hiring 15,000–20,000 recent graduates in the current fiscal year. This employment campaign reflects the company's flexible hiring practises by utilising both on-campus and off-campus placements.

Recruitment of recent graduates outside of the conventional campus placement season is the goal of the off-campus employment approach. In the meantime, TCS, the bigger rival of Infosys, intends to hire roughly 40,000 fresh graduates this fiscal year, in line with its hiring totals from the prior year.

In the June quarter, Infosys's headcount dropped by nearly 2,000, bringing the total number of employees to 315,332. "In the past multiple quarters, we have moved to agile hiring where we hire freshers from campus and off-campus. Our utilization is already at 85%. So, we have little headroom now left. We are looking at hiring 15,000 to 20,000 freshers this year depending on how we see the growth," said Infosys CFO Jayesh Sanghrajka.

With trainees excluded, the company's utilization rate rose from 83.5% in the March quarter to 85.3% in the June quarter. Infosys has changed their hiring practices to include a 50% campus recruitment methodology for new workers and an off-campus recruitment model for the remaining jobs.

Historically, the biggest employers of engineers and technological professionals have been IT companies. But in the most recent fiscal year, TCS, Infosys, and Wipro's total workforce fell by around 64,000 as a result of a slowdown in off-campus hiring, which was mostly brought on by a downturn in core customer markets.

"Despite an overarching trend on reduced attrition and increased productivity, companies are creating new positions to support their growth. Secondly, there is a strong focus on future growth—by bringing in freshers, companies can invest in training and development to ensure they possess the skills necessary to meet future client demands," Krishna Vij, business head of IT staffing at Teamlease Digital.

With plans to hire lateral people as needed, Infosys' hiring program will combine off-campus and on-campus recruitment efforts based on project requirements and essential skills.
